If the bind() method is used to define the action on the event, trigger() allows to activate the associated event. It also allows additional parameters to be passed to the event, parameters that are evaluated on the fly unlike bind() where the parameters need to be computed when the event handler is bound.

The triggerHandler() method allows you to target the action defined on the chosen event without targeting the default behavior of the event(focus, form submission, etc.)

The .on() method(formerly.live()) existing since jQuery 1.7, allows to define a namespace of the event in the document and creates a delegate at the level of the object (or objects) at the (x) which (s) it is associated with.
